Brazil's agribusiness sector has solidified its position as a global powerhouse, contributing significantly to the country's GDP and employment. In 2024, the sector's gross value of production (GVP) was expected to reach BRL 1.29tn, reflecting a modest 1.9% decline compared to 2023, according to a November 2024 report from the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA). While soy prices and production—key contributors to GVP—dipped, this trend was anticipated and it does not pose a major threat to the sector's stability. In September 2024, Claudio Considera, national accounts coordinator at the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV/Ibre), noted there was a record-breaking harvest in 2023 that was unlikely to be repeated in 2024, particularly given the dry weather caused by El Niño effects. The 2023/2024 harvest season marked the second-largest in history based on the National Supply Company (CONAB)'s data series, with a production volume of 298.4mn tonnes, despite challenges such as the El Niño-induced dry weather.
