In December 2022, the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC) had forecast a growth of 2.5% y/y for construction in 2023, above the national economy growth rate for the third consecutive year. However, in April 2023, the CBIC lowered the sector's growth expectations for the year. Considering the reduction in expectations for the performance of the Brazilian economy and the uncertainty surrounding the future direction of interest rates, the CBIC reduced the sector's growth expectations to 2% y/y. By the end of July 2023, CBIC once again adjusted its growth forecast for the construction industry's GVA to 1.5% y/y for 2023. This marked the third consecutive reduction in the year. The rationale behind this adjustment is attributed to several factors, including the prolonged period of high interest rates, delays in announcing the new conditions of the My House My Life (MCMV) housing programme, and a decrease in real estate project launches during the initial months of the year.
