The Brazilian fintech sector features a variety of players and services. Despite the large number of companies operating through online platforms and providing innovative financial services in Brazil, only 258 of these firms were being monitored by the country's central bank as of March 2024, and were considered part of the National Financial System (SFN). To become a part of the SFN, the respective companies need to provide financial intermediation services and exceed a predefined minimum of transaction volume, equity, capital, and other variables. As of March 2024, there were 130 credit fintechs, among which 118 direct credit societies (SCD) and 12 peer-to-peer loan companies (SEP). As for payment processing companies, there were 128 institutions under the supervision of the central bank at the end of March 2024.
