In Q2 2023, total insurance premium incomes in Brazil saw an increase of 8.4% y/y to BRL 159.5bn. This rise was mainly explained by the recovery of the economy, as GDP rose by 4% y/y in the quarter. Life insurance premium income went up by 2.5% y/y to BRL 60.4bn during Q2 2023, while non-life insurance premium income amounted to BRL 99.1bn in Q2 2023, a 12.3% y/y increase. The main factor behind this rise was the performance of property and casualty insurance products, where premium income increased by 11.3% y/y to BRL 30.8bn. Within the property and casualty category, loan (up 19.4% y/y), property (+17.6% y/y), and automotive (+12.8% y/y) insurance were the most dynamic categories, showing a shift in demand towards financial and property insurance as the economy continued to grow. Supplementary health insurance premium income increased by 11.8% y/y to BRL 68.2bn in Q2 2023, as people are getting more concerned about health post-pandemic.
