The Brazilian insurance sector recorded modest overall expansion in Q3 2025, with total premium income reaching BRL 196.0bn, up 0.3% y/y, though this headline figure conceals a pronounced divergence between segments. Non-life insurance accounted for 64.4% of total premiums and delivered solid growth of 8.5% y/y, supported by sustained strength in financial risks, property and motor lines. In contrast, the life and pension segment contracted 11.7% y/y to BRL 69.8bn, driven almost entirely by the collapse in open pension plan inflows. Insurance penetration eased to 6.0% of GDP, down 0.48 pp versus Q3 2024, as economic output expanded at a faster pace than premium revenue growth.
