China is the largest producer and consumer of alcoholic beverages in the world, producing one-third of the world's spirits and one-fifth of the world's beer. Its beer production ranked first in the world for 21 consecutive years. In 2022, the country's beer production rose slightly by 0.2% y/y to 35.7bn litres, while its output of the other two major alcoholic beverages - baijiu and grape wine - declined by 6.2% y/y and 20.1% y/y to 6.7bn litres and 214mn litres, respectively. The output of soft drinks in the year slid by 1.1% y/y to 181.4mn tonnes.
