In 2016, the railway sector saw stable growth in passenger traffic and turnover, and a slower y/y decrease in freight transportation. In 2016, the annual drop was just 0.5% compared with a 11.9% y/y decrease in 2015. Investments in fixed assets in the railway sector reached RMB 775bn in 2016, remaining at the same level as in 2015. Five new high-speed lines were put into operation in 2016, increasing the total length of HSR by 1903 km.
