With PLN 239.5bn of open pension funds' assets and PLN 85.7bn of combined premiums in 2024, the Polish insurance market maintains its position as the largest in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The market demonstrated robust growth momentum, with total premiums expanding 8.5% year-on-year, driven by exceptional performance in the non-life segment which grew 13.7% y/y to PLN 62.1bn, while life insurance premiums increased 3.3% y/y to PLN 23.6bn. Despite this strong performance, insurance penetration remains relatively low compared to Western European standards, presenting significant growth opportunities. The life insurance segment showed improved technical performance with a profitability ratio of 18.57%, while the non-life segment faced claims pressure with gross claims paid rising 21.0% to PLN 33.9bn, primarily due to natural catastrophe losses from the September 2024 floods.
